MANUFACTURING CHOICES

Direct-to-Film (DTF) printing offers several distinct advantages over Direct-to-Garment (DTG) printing, particularly regarding versatility, durability and wash resistance, and production efficiency.

  • Material Versatility: DTF works on almost any fabric, including polyester, nylon, blends, and leather, whereas DTG is largely limited to cotton and high-cotton blends.

  • Dark Garment Performance: DTF produces consistently bright, opaque white underbases on dark garments without requiring pre-treatment, while DTG needs pre-treatment which can affect texture and speed.

  • Durability and Wash Resistance: DTF transfers are highly durable, resistant to cracking and fading, and generally maintain vibrancy through more wash cycles than DTG.

  • Production Speed and Scalability: DTF allows for batch printing of transfers on film, which can be stored and heat-pressed onto garments in seconds, making it significantly faster for bulk orders compared to DTG’s one-by-one printing process.

  • Cost Efficiency: DTF typically has a lower initial investment for equipment and avoids the costs and labor associated with DTG’s pre-treatment steps, making it more cost-effective for mixed orders and smaller batches.
